Borderless volunteers - Jul 28 2010

It was admiring that these Singaporean volunteers were as young as TLS students but could travel alone without parents and cooperate with the underprivileged community. They managed to handle paint brushes, remove and take soil with trowels for planting flowers under the scorching sunshine.

They entered the English class to make friends with Vietnamese students then talked to the hairdressing ones who polished their nails to mark the Vietnamese-Singaporean friendship before they left.

Prasidhi, the group leader said they were moved sharing their effort and labours for their friends in TLS and expected to have one more opportunity to return to Ho Chi Minh City and visit the school again.

It was not the first time that UWCSEA sent their students to Thang Long School. We received the first group in 2008 and since there were one or two groups joint us each year. Although their work in TLS was of little account, it shone a bright spiritual value because they paid attention to disadvantaged peers. They sacrificed their travelling time and added their human strength to make the world better.

The social workers like us and the school children respect the precious contribution of these young students. We wish that everyone knows how to love and help each other like these little girls.
